Our Programs Through its programs, The Belton Foundation strives to create experiences that broaden perspectives, attitudes and knowledge of families. The foundation is committed to transforming communities and impacting lives by raising funds and developing resources to support programs that empower underprivileged youth and families.
Joyce F. Burke Academic Excellence Scholarship Each year, the foundation provides educational scholarships for underprivileged youth. This year, the foundation will award (2) two $1,500 scholarships, (2) two $1,000 scholarships, and (10) ten $500 scholarships to assist students in their educational endeavors. Scholarships will be awarded to college-bound high school senior students who have overcome extenuating circumstances and would like to further their education. Applications must be postmarked by Wednesday, January 31, 2018 for the 2017-2018 cycle. Scholarship recipients will be notified by Thursday, March 1, 2018.
Reading Rock Stars The foundation partners with elementary schools to promote and encourage children to become lifelong readers. We reward children who read a certain number of hours, based on goals set by their teacher (called 'Reading Rock Star' of the Month). At the end of the year, we award a Reading Rock Star of the Year with books for summer reading. Volunteers from the foundation read to youth (once a month) to highlight the importance of reading and to encourage children to excel in reading.
Celebrity Bowling Classic During the summer, the foundation will host a bowling outing for youth ages 7-16. The event will allow youth to join a mentor (adult) for an afternoon of bowling and fun. Youth will enjoy lunch, bowling and games. This mentoring program pairs positive role models with youth to teach the following: positive alternative activities, motivation, communication, self-esteem building, responsibility, as well as the ability to overcome peer pressure.
Pink Pajama Jam In October 2018, we will host a celebratory event in support of breast cancer awareness, celebrate breast cancer survivors, and provide support to women who currently have breast cancer. This program is a celebration for women, with an evening full of activities in support of breast cancer awareness and survivors. This is a fun event where women can be informed about risk factors for developing breast cancer and recommended procedures to preserve breast health through regular breast self-exam (BSE), annual breast exam by a healthcare provider and regular mammograms according to recommended screening guidelines. This event will include raffles, music, games, prizes, breast cancer information, as well as pampering stations for women. Stay tuned for event details and how to register for this event!
